Members of Course 7/2023 Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) is traveling to Algeria, Morocco, Togo, and Uganda as part of a geo-strategic study tour (GSST). The tour’s goal is to make participants aware of Nigeria’s influence within its geo-strategic environment. Its theme is “Protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure of National Defense.” The tour, which began on June 10, 2023, will also help the participants comprehend the relationship between geopolitical structures and Nigeria’s foreign policy stance toward nations both inside and outside the sub-region.

The study visit, in accordance with Major Hashimu Abdullahi, the college’s public relations officer, is an essential element of the participants’ training since it gives them hands-on experience with actual military operations, tactics, and decision-making procedures. The tour will also help the visitors understand the security implications of Nigeria’s standing as the regional power and what needs to be done to preserve it. Additionally, it would help them to apply strategic principles in real-world situations, widen their viewpoints, and develop their critical thinking abilities.

The journey will take the participants to various military establishments, including training facilities, command centers, and vital infrastructures of other countries. They will get a chance to talk with senior military officials, discuss problems with operations, and gain knowledge from their experiences. The participants will also travel to historical locations with a significant military past.

Major General Bamidele Alabi, the Commandant of the College, will serve as the exercise director for the entire tour. Brigadier General TJ Mackintosh would command team 1 while Brigadier General UM Alkali, the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies AWCN, would lead team 2. Team 1 would travel to Uganda while team 2 would travel to Morocco. Brigadier General UG Yusuf would be in charge of team 3’s trip to Togo, and Brigadier General FO Onu would be in charge of team 4’s trip to Algeria.

AWCN is still dedicated to giving military officers top-notch instruction and training so they will be well-equipped to perform their duties as strategic leaders. The entire curriculum provided by the College comprises theoretical and practical modules on national security, defense administration, leadership, and strategic planning, and the strategic study tour is just one component of that program.
