Maiduguri, Borno State – The Nigerian Police Force in Borno State has made a noteworthy arrest, as they foiled an attempt to steal train carriages from the train station in Maiduguri. Suspects Apprehended While Trying to Pilfer Valuable Train Components; Investigations Underway
State Police Commissioner Mohammed Yusufu Lawan confirmed that their attention was drawn to the situation when they received a tip from the airport, reporting a truck preparing to unload the train carriages. Swiftly, officers arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
The stolen cargo included three valuable cranes, and their prompt response led to the immediate arrest of an individual identified as Aliyu Mainasara. Commissioner Lawan disclosed this during an interview with NTA television.
Surprisingly, the suspect claimed he had been instructed by the Nigerian Railways’ top official to transport the truck to Plateau State, where the state government intended to construct a railway line in Jos. Despite this assertion, the commissioner stressed that the man failed to produce any compelling evidence to substantiate his claim.
Media outlets in Nigeria have reported that a total of six individuals have been apprehended by the police on suspicion of involvement in the theft of these valuable train components. Investigations are currently underway to uncover the full extent of this incident and determine any potential accomplices.
