The Katsina State Police Command has arrested suspected arms traffickers in Ingawa Local Government Area while they were allegedly transporting weapons to Safana, a community affected by banditry activities.

The suspects were intercepted during a coordinated stop-and-search operation and were found in possession of dangerous weapons, believed to be intended for criminal elements operating in the area.

Confirming the development, a police source disclosed that the suspects have been handed over to the appropriate security authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.

“The arrest is part of our ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and to strengthen security in Katsina and neighboring communities,” the source said.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Katsina Command, [insert PPRO’s name, if available], also reiterated the commitment of security agencies to rid the state of arms traffickers, stressing that such arrests send a strong signal to criminal networks supplying weapons to bandits.

Residents of Safana and neighboring LGAs have over time raised concerns about the influx of illegal firearms fueling insecurity in the region. Security analysts believe that tackling arms trafficking is key to reducing attacks and restoring stability.

The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, and authorities assured that the outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.
