Fifteen members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have been arrested by the police in Ebonyi State for their involvement in a shooting incident that occurred during the sit-at-home order. The order, issued by a rogue faction of the outlawed group led by Simon Ekpa, had caused residents to suspend their normal activities for seven days, from July 3 to 10.

The Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, Faleye Olayele, revealed that the suspects were captured in a viral video, seen forcing people to comply with the sit-at-home order. Among those arrested were two herbalists, Okwudili Otozi and Nnenna Ali. Olayele stated that the group had been causing unrest and had even attacked the area commander, resulting in the burning of a police vehicle.

On July 4, the suspects allegedly arrived at the Ishieke area of Ebonyi State, firing shots indiscriminately. However, the police received information and were able to apprehend them from their hideouts. During the arrest, the police also recovered various weapons and charms.

The Commissioner of Police commended the dedication and commitment of the police officers in ensuring the safety and security of the state. He emphasized that the timely arrest was made possible due to the information provided to the police.

In a surprising twist, one of the arrested herbalists, Okwudili Otozi, revealed that he had been coerced into joining the group after they initially approached him requesting medicine. He stated that he was forced to accompany them to the bush for further preparations.

The arrest of these IPOB members and the recovery of weapons and charms highlight the efforts of the police in Ebonyi State to maintain law and order and protect the residents from any form of violence or intimidation. It sends a strong message that individuals involved in unlawful activities will be held accountable for their actions.
