On Saturday in Abuja, the police denied media allegations that the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), was overrun with explosives. Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force’sSspokesperson, stated in a statement that the allegation was false and encouraged Nigerians to ignore it.
“It is unexpected and depressing to learn that bombs are being put in every section of the FCT through the news and social media.”It is regrettable that the information is even coming from those people who are thought to be national unifiers and peace ambassadors.
Chief Superintendent of Police Mr. Adejobi stated, “I don’t think it will do our country any good to continuously circulate such terrible stories to further generate further panic among citizens and residents of the FCT and Nigeria at large.”
He claims that the FCT is secure, there is no immediate danger, and it is not overrun with bombs as has been reported in the media.
Therefore, he encouraged people in the FCT and throughout Nigeria to dismiss the story as false. Mr. Adejobi claimed that the news was purportedly sponsored in order to instill fear in people and stoke political unrest.
He declared that the police would keep using all practical operational techniques to crush the activities of other criminal groups and non-state actors in the nation. NAN
