Role of the Nigerian Army Crucial to the 2023 General Election – General Akinjobi

Major General Olufemi Akinjobi, the Chief of Operations Army, has reaffirmed the importance of the Nigerian Army in the smooth running of the general election in 2023.

Introspection of Past Experiences and Efforts at Improving Nigerian Army Support to Operation Safe Conduct 2023 was the focus of General Akinjobi’s sensitization talk to Commanders of the 2 Division in Ibadan on February 3, 2023.

While advising the staff to maintain a political neutrality in the upcoming the Chief of Operations Army, has reaffirmed the importance of the Nigerian Army in the smooth running of the general election in 2023., the Chief of Operations Army emphasized that, despite the obstacles that each election presents, the Nigerian Army must be prepared to deal with anything that could endanger the process. He exhorted the various commanders to work more closely with stakeholders to ensure the smooth running of the elections.

During Operation Safe Conduct 2023, Gen. Akinjobin gave commanders the responsibility for organizing drills and operations to put formations in the proper mode and to verify that troops had received the necessary training in the Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement.

Major General Mohammed Usman, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2nd Division of the Nigerian Army, urged the various commanders in his speech to create a free and favorable atmosphere for voters to cast their ballots in the next elections without any obstacles.

The GOC pleaded with the Commanders to devise a practical plan for correctly identifying security personnel performing election-related responsibilities in their Area of Responsibility. All formations and unit commanders in the 2 Division Area of Responsibility were present for the sensitization lecture.
