In a decisive move against criminal activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the operatives of the FCT Police Command, in synergy with special forces from the Guards Brigade Nigerian Army, DSS hunters, and other security agencies, successfully stormed identified bandits’ hideouts on June 7, 2024. Acting on credible intelligence, the security forces targeted kidnappers’ camps at Gidan Dogo and Kweti Forest in Kaduna State, bordering the FCT, resulting in the arrest of four suspects.
The suspects, identified as Yahaya Abubakar, 25, of Mpape; Mohammed Mohamed, 32, an ex-convict from Zuba; Umar Aliyu, 20; and Nura Abdullahi, 32, also an ex-convict from Kubwa and Zuba hills respectively, were apprehended during the operation. SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, stated that the suspects confessed to being members of the notorious bandit syndicate known as ‘Mai One Million,’ responsible for a series of kidnappings and other heinous crimes in the FCT and surrounding areas.
The coordinated operation, which included a shootout between the bandits and security operatives, led to the rescue of several victims. The bandits, overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the security forces, fled, leaving behind their captives. All illegally erected structures by the kidnappers in the patrolled camps were decimated, effectively dislodging their bases of operation.
The rescued victims have been safely reunited with their families, bringing relief to their loved ones. The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, lauded the efforts of the security operatives in their ongoing fight against criminality in the nation’s capital.
