The General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army/Commander Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA Major General Aminu Shehu Chinade, has urged participants of Exercise Shining Star III to sharpen their skills in order to enhance their professional effectiveness.
The GOC gave the charge during the inauguration ceremony of Exercise Shining Star III 2023 held at 82 Division Training School Abakpa Cantonment Enugu. A total of two (2) Officers and eighty (80) soldiers drawn from various formations within 82 Division Area of Responsibility were inaugurated.
Maj Gen Chinade expressed his pleasure for the conduct of the exercise since commencement, noting that participants should count themselves lucky to be beneficiaries of such high-level exercise urging them to be serious during the training in order to enhance their capacity so as to be able to carry out assigned task effectively.
The GOC further stated that the objectives of the training was to introduce them to realistic and battle focused training, adding that the activities were to enable them confront the current security challenges within 82 Division Area of Responsibility. He also urged the participants to conduct themselves throughout the training and desist from any act capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigerian Army.
In his welcome address, the 82 Division Training Officer, Brigadier General OO Ejere said that Exercise Shining Star III 2023 is to provide common platform for harmonized post-basic training for selected young soldiers after their initial training at Depot Nigerian Army, stressing that the training would be practical dominated with field training exercise. He noted that the training was expected to expose the young soldiers to realistic operation under actual command environment with officers and senior non-commissioned officers providing real as against simulated command chain.
Brig Gen Ejere also pointed out that the aim of the training was to build the capacity of the participants, enhance their confidence in weapon handling and acquaint them with team manoeuvre skills. He further commended the General Officer Commanding for his support towards the training in tandem with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) vision Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya which is to have “A Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions within a Joint Environment in Defence of Nigeria.”
Present at the inauguration ceremony were the Commander 82 Division Garrison Brigadier General MM Abu, other formation/unit Commanders, Principal Staff Officers and Officers of the division.
