Maj-Gen Olufemi Oluyede, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army and the Land Component Commander (LCC) of Operation Delta Secure (OPDS), has ordered the 16 Brigade’s soldiers to abstain from all political activity during the upcoming national elections. He also charged them to strictly adhere to the Code of Conduct and the Nigerian Army’s Rules of Engagement at all times.

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, Major General Oluyede delivered the proclamation while on an operational tour to Headquarters 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army. During Operation Safe Conduct 2023, he sternly urged the soldiers to abide by the Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement for Personnel of the Nigerian Army (NA).

In order to prevent a breakdown in law and order during the elections, the GOC/LCC reported that Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya has ordered all NA officers and troops to maintain their neutrality throughout the general elections.

On this occasion, Maj-Gen Oluyede reminded the troops to strictly enforce the polite movement restrictions and to use force to defend voters. Additionally, he ordered the soldiers to be on high watch and vigilant throughout Operation Safe Conduct 2023.

The GOC/LCC urged the soldiers to maintain the NA’s honor both during and after the general elections. He added that civilians would continue to revere officers and soldiers when they act honorably, but he also issued a warning that any found to be deficient would be dealt with harshly.

The GOC/LCC addressed the soldiers, the in-cadet push-up exercise, the exchange of gifts with Commander 16 Brigade NA/Sector 2 OPDS Brig Gen Sadisu Yakasai, and the inspection of Quarter Guards were among the visit’s highlights. The visitor’s book was also signed.
