The quality of planning considerations made for any operation is essential to the result or success of the mission, this is according to Major General Olufemi O. Oluyede, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army.
The GOC made this declaration on November 15, 2022, during his keynote speech at the 6 Division Operations Planning Cadre 2022 opening ceremony, which was held at the 63 Brigade Officers’ Mess in Asaba, Delta State, under the theme “Whole of Society Approach Towards Addressing Contemporary Security Challenges.”
The GOC, who was represented by Brigadier General Abbas A. Idris, Commander of the 6 Military Intelligence Brigade, stated that the Operations Planning Cadre is a yearly training exercise for the Nigerian Army officers held at the divisional level in accordance with Army Headquarters Training Directives towards the realization of the Chief of the Army Staff’s Vision, which is “To have a professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned missions within a joint environment in defence of Nigeria.”
The cadre, it should be noted, is intended to update officers’ planning abilities and methods, particularly with regard to the principles and procedures used in combined service operations planning as well as current security concerns.
He pointed out that the cadre is still in place at a time when worries about current security issues plaguing the country and the ability of Officers to lead in addressing them in a joint operations environment are growing. Additionally, the activities of militants, kidnappers, armed robbers, bandits, terrorists, and secessionist groups across the Division’s Area of Responsibility have exposed certain existing deficiencies in our training and operations, necessitating a re-orientation at all levels.
Brigadier General Abbas A. Idris, commander of the 6 Military Intelligence Brigade, and Brigadier General Suleiman S. Tilawan, commander of the 6 Division Garrison, both gave lectures on inter-agency cooperation and national security in Nigeria and the imperatives for effective information and intelligence sharing, respectively.
The interactive session, the question and answer portion, and the contributions from the attendees were the highlights of the event.
Participants included Commander 63 Brigade representatives, the Delta State Police Commissioner, and the heads of other sister services and security organizations.
