The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, has charged officers to uphold strict discipline, dedication, and the core values of the Nigerian Army. He gave the charge during the flag-off of the Division’s combat proficiency competition at the 82 Battalion Parade Ground, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, on Monday, 18 August 2025.

The event, attended by state government officials, senior military officers, and heads of security and paramilitary agencies, marks a major training milestone in the Division’s calendar. According to the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the GOC declared the competition open, describing it as a platform not just for contests but for fostering camaraderie, professionalism, and combat readiness.

“Our strength lies not only in numbers but in discipline, resilience, and an unyielding resolve to protect Nigeria’s sovereignty. This competition reflects that ethos,” Maj Gen Oyinlola stated. He emphasized that the exercise would sharpen tactical proficiency, leadership, and teamwork—critical skills for commanders facing evolving security challenges.

The GOC commended the organizers and participating formations for their enthusiasm, urging officers to embrace innovation and continuous self-development while observing safety protocols. He further appreciated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen OO Oluyede, for prioritizing training and providing the necessary support to enhance operational effectiveness.

Brigadier General Adiyu Aminu, Commander 3 Division Garrison, also highlighted the importance of the exercise, noting that it aligns with the COAS’ Command Philosophy and global best practices.

The week-long competition features six formations, including 6 Brigade Jalingo, 23 Brigade Yola, 33 Brigade Bauchi, 43 Engineers Brigade Jos, and the host, 3 Div Gar. Events include tug of war, combat swimming, map reading, combat races, skill-at-arms, and obstacle crossing. The opening contest, tug of war, saw 3 Div Gar emerge victorious, setting the pace for subsequent events.
