Three alleged members of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra have been detained by police in Cross River State (IPOB). This was revealed by Sule Balarabe, the state police commissioner, during a parade of the suspects who had been detained by the command between August and November.
The suspected IPOB members were identified by the commissioner as Richard Ukehad, 29, Esther Asado, 29, and Chief Isaac Ebebe, 44. He claimed that in response to an intelligence report, the suspects were apprehended at their camp in the Bebe III community of the state’s Obanliku Local Government Area.
The military, working with the Anti-Cultism/Kidnapping Squad, “swung into action on the strength of the information, and the three members were captured,” he said.
According to the commissioner, their camp had two Danish rifles, a Biafra uniform, a Biafra flag, an axe, a dagger, four explosive devices, two suspected explosive chemicals, charms, a Police beret, and a live cartridge belongs to the members. When the investigation into the case is over, according to Balarabe, the suspects will be charged in court.
The commissioner added that within the same time period, one person was also detained for armed robbery and kidnapping, while two people were apprehended for illegally possessing firearms. He revealed that the command had retrieved two AK47 riffles and 200 rounds of AK47 life ammunition that belonged to the kidnappers.
The Commissioner cautioned politicians from using violence and any other illegal actions that could jeopardize the peace in Cross River while pledging to cleanse the state of crime and criminality both during and after the holiday season. He said that as a result, “the leadership advises all political parties, their candidates, and supporters to play by the rule and adhere by all the regulations governing the country’s election process as breaches would not be tolerated.”
