Following the destruction of five suspected hideouts in the northeast of Mafa, Borno state, Nigerian Army troops claimed to have killed a number of Boko Haram militants.

On December 3, 2022, it was reported that troops of the 112 Battalion of the 24 Task Force Brigade of Operation Hadin Kai, along with some civilian members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, went on a fighting patrol in an area  they believed to be Boko Haram hideouts in the villages of Bulakulari, Gwari gwazo, Loskori, Limanti, and Gaza.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad, was informed by an intelligence source that during the counter-offensive patrol, the troops came in touch with the terrorists and killed an undetermined number of them in one of the villages.

The sources added that members of the terrorist group who were allegedly utilizing those places to assaulting troops and other law-abiding civilians along the Ngwom-Mafa-Maiduguri road were decisively neutralized by the army, which was led by one Lt. Col. Obiyanyo. He continued by saying that a total of 40 bicycles, as well as other things like guns, were taken. Soldiers ensured that all suspect terrorist components had been removed from the entire area in the meantime.
