On Monday, April 15, 2024, Nigerian Army forces stationed in the North West for counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations achieved a major breakthrough when they destroyed a terrorists’ enclave in Zamfara State’s Maru Local Government Area, disrupting their activities and causing numerous casualties.

The Director Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, made the announcement in a statement claiming forces carried out a targeted clearance operation to destroy the suspected terrorists’ enclave in their operational base in Maru, based on reliable intelligence. The brave soldiers engaged the terrorists in a gunfight, killing 12 of them and forcing the others to retreat.

One magazine, twelve rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, and an AK-47 rifle were recovered as significant outcomes of the operation. In addition, eighteen rustled cows and ten functioning motorbikes that the terrorists used for transportation were taken into custody, along with two locally made firearms. The military destroyed the terrorists’ base when they were forced to retreat.

The accomplishment of this mission demonstrates the commitment and hard work of Nigerian Army soldiers in the war against insurgency and terrorism. The Nigerian Army is taking decisive action to stop terrorists’ activities in the area, and it is unwavering in its mission to protect people’ safety and security.

The Nigerian Army reiterates its resolve to keep up the momentum in its continuing operations to eradicate terrorism and insurgency from the North West and other difficult areas. This most recent operation protects people from the threat of terrorism and is evidence of the Army’s unwavering pursuit of peace and stability in the area.
