Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) successfully neutralized a notorious terrorist after a fierce firefight in Taraba State, as part of a decisive operation against banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities. They also recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and several other items.
In a statement made on July 29, 2024, Captain Olubodunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, said that the operation was carried out along the Road Gbeji-Afia, a border community to Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. This was one of the Brigade’s coordinated efforts to destroy terrorist hideouts and guarantee the safety and security of the people living in Taraba State.
After coming onto armed terrorists on a motorcycle, the soldiers were on a combat patrol. With a ferocious exchange of gunfire, the brave soldiers engaged the terrorists right away, neutralizing one of them while the others managed to flee into the bush, wounded by bullets. A cell phone, a magazine, seven rounds of special 7.62mm ammunition, an AK-47 rifle, and several charms were among the items were collected from the site. Eventually, it was established that the individual who had been neutralized was Odumegu, Fullfire’s second in command and the head of a renowned terrorist organization that had been on security agencies’ wanted list and operated in the Taraba and Benue States.
Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the soldiers for their unwavering devotion and commitment to duty. He underlined the Brigade’s determination to keep up the pressure until Taraba State and beyond are free of terrorist strongholds.
Asserting that the war on terrorism is a team effort, the commander thanked the local community for their assistance and collaboration. Everyone is asked to be on the lookout for suspicious activity and to report it to the closest law enforcement office.
