Asaba, Nigeria – An enclave belonging to the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN) was destroyed in Asaba, Delta State, thanks to the combined efforts of soldiers from the 63 Bde Garrison under the 6 Division Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services. The raid on the fortified stronghold situated in the middle of a forested high ground took place on Saturday, July 22, 2023, as part of an ongoing Clearance Operation.

The brave soldiers and the IPOB fighters engaged in a firefight during the encounter, according to Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations. The intruders were overpowered by the military, who exhibited their great talents, causing them to flee their refuge in a chaotic state.

During the operation, the troops were successful in apprehending one of the evading combatants, striking a severe blow to the criminal enterprise. A sizable collection of weapons was also taken from the location. Five AK-47 rifles, three pump-action semi-automatic rifles, one G3 rifle, and one single-barrel gun are among the confiscated firearms. The soldiers also discovered electric saws, machetes, axes, live cartridges, and an IPOB flag.

The enclave was completely destroyed as a result of the successful raid, making it impossible for the banned group to use it as a base of operations going forward. The forces’ dedication to preserving the safety and security of local residents is evident in their unrelenting pursuit of the evading fighters.

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, praised the soldiers and other security organizations involved in the operation. He commended their commitment and asked them to keep up the momentum in reestablishing the area’s law and order.

A critical step in the struggle against terrorism and separatist movements is the collaboration of the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services in the fight against criminal organizations like IPOB/ESN. The operation demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to upholding law and order, protecting citizens’ lives, and preserving Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

The fighter will be tried according to the law, and the weapons and other materials that were found will be used as evidence in continuing investigations. The accomplishment of this operation sends a strong signal that the Nigerian security forces will keep up their efforts to confront and eliminate any threat to the peace and stability of the country.
