Major General IS Ali, the Theatre Commander (TC) of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has assured Vice Chancellors and MAIDUGURI academic community of his commitment to creating a favorable and secure climate for academic activities to flourish in Borno State.
On March 1, 2023, the TC made the commitment during a formal visit to the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and Borno State University (BOSU). The Vice Chancellors of BOSU and UNIMAID, Professor Aliyu Shugaba and Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe, respectively, greeted the TC and members of his entourage upon their arrival.
Both Vice Chancellors thanked the military for their dedication and assistance in ensuring sufficient security around the school during their visits. They revealed that, aside from the academic strike and despite the state’s security situation, universities had never before been forced to close down because of a danger to their safety. They urged greater synchronicity and coordination while assuring the Theatre Commander of their ongoing support.
In his comments, the TC thanked the Institutions for their assistance and support given to his predecessor, and he also asked for the same during his administration.
Finally, General Ali reaffirmed his commitment to uphold the current reciprocal connection between the military and the university community and to foster an environment that is supportive of academic activities.
