The nation has been reassured by Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), that the Nigerian Army (NA) will uphold its constitutional duty to protect the nation’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as assist civil authorities in reducing security concerns in the nation.
The COAS assured this on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Kontagora, while addressing troops during the firepower demonstration code-named “Exercise MUGUN BUGU”. This was according to a press release from Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director Army Public Relations. The COAS further revealed that the exercise is a first of its type, bringing together all combat and combat support arms of NA Training Schools for the combined training exercise.
The importance of training according to him is one of the cornerstones of his command philosophy. “The only way for troops to internalize, practice, and perfect the application of skills and competencies is only through training”, he added.
The Army Chief said that “the joint exercise would guarantee efficient and goal-oriented training that would include multimodal training exercises aimed at addressing current security concerns as well as eclipsing dangers that may come in the future”.
“To combat threats to national security, the troops must apply the lessons they learned from the exercise in their formations and units”.
Speaking at the exercise, Maj-Gen Stevenson Olabanji, Commander of Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), declared that the Command would continue to engage in training activities designed to assist the NA in realizing its desire for a professional and responsive Army.
