In a series of successful engagements, the Nigerian Army’s swift and strategic response has once again disrupted terrorist activities in Zamfara and Katsina states, demonstrating its commitment to maintaining security in the North-West. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops intercepted and dismantled terrorist cells operating across various locations, recovering a significant cache of weapons and rescuing hostages in coordinated efforts.
On October 21, 2024, troops deployed in Zamfara responded to a terrorist blockade along the Jambako-Faru road in Maradun Local Government Area. The confrontation resulted in a fierce gunfight, which ultimately forced the terrorists to abandon their positions and flee. The soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 7.62mm special ammunition, adding to the growing collection of seized weapons as the army intensifies operations in the area.
In a separate encounter on the Marnona-Gudunmi-Isa road near Gidan Isa village in Isa Local Government Area, troops successfully intercepted a group of terrorists attempting to cross key routes. A shootout ensued, leading to the recovery of a significant arsenal, including 297 rounds of 7.62mm NATO rounds, 23 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two AK-47 rifle magazines, a motorcycle, and a mobile phone. This disruption has dealt a critical blow to the terrorists’ mobility and access to weaponry, hindering further operations in Zamfara.
Meanwhile, in Katsina state, troops mounted an immediate response to a terrorist attack on Damari village in Dandume Local Government Area. Reports indicated that the terrorists had abducted three women, intending to use them as leverage for ransom or negotiation. However, the quick deployment of troops enabled a swift pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, resulting in the successful rescue of all three hostages, who have since been safely reunited with their families.
Commending the troops for their relentless commitment and bravery, the Chief of Army Staff acknowledged the importance of such operations in curtailing the activities of terrorist groups in the region. He urged the troops to maintain their operational momentum, noting that recent successes are pivotal in the broader strategy to secure stability in the North-West. Additionally, he expressed deep appreciation to the public, particularly local communities, for their continued support and provision of valuable intelligence. The Chief highlighted that this collaboration has been instrumental in uncovering and intercepting terrorist activities.
These coordinated efforts reflect the Nigerian Army’s resolve to safeguard communities in Zamfara, Katsina, and other vulnerable areas, with ongoing operations aimed at dismantling insurgent networks, reclaiming lost territories, and securing peace for the citizens. The Army has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a vigilant presence and ensuring that terrorist activities are thoroughly countered across Nigeria’s North-West region.
