The 33 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, headquartered at Shadawanka Barracks in Bauchi, has witnessed a leadership transition as Brigadier General UG Simon assumed command from the outgoing Brigadier General E Egbe. Brigadier General Egbe, who commanded the Brigade with distinction for two years, is moving to his new appointment at the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery in Kontagora, Niger State.
In a statement by Captain Atang Hallet Solomon, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations 33 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Simon expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Commander Corps of Artillery, Major General Zakari Abubakar, for entrusting him with the responsibility as the 44th Commander of the Brigade. He urged the officers and soldiers to extend their support and cooperation to ensure the Brigade achieves its objectives under his leadership.
Brigadier General Simon emphasized his commitment to the COAS’s Command Philosophy: “To consolidate on the transformation agenda of the Nigerian Army towards bequeathing a well-motivated and combat-ready force that can effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.” He pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor and work towards continuous improvement within the Brigade.
The outgoing Commander, Brigadier General E Egbe, expressed gratitude to God, the COAS, and past and present General Officers Commanding (GOCs) of 3 Division Nigerian Army for their guidance and support during his tenure. He lauded the cooperation of the officers and soldiers, which enabled him to record successes during his time as Commander. He urged them to extend the same level of commitment and loyalty to his successor to further the Brigade’s mission.
The handing-over ceremony was attended by officers, soldiers, the barracks community, and well-wishers. It featured significant moments such as the signing of Handing and Taking Over notes, the exchange of the Brigade flag, a Quarter Guard drill marking the end of Brigadier General Egbe’s command, and group photographs.
The event also included a farewell by members of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association (NASWA), and the Shadawanka Barracks community, who honored Brigadier General Egbe for his service and dedication.
Brigadier General Simon’s assumption of command marks the beginning of a new chapter for 33 Artillery Brigade, with high hopes for sustained excellence and operational success under his leadership.
