Abuja, Nigeria – The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, has praised the Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Aminu Umar, for his visionary leadership and commitment to the welfare of troops. General Lagbaja expressed his assurance of enhanced welfare packages for Nigerian Army personnel while emphasizing the importance of leadership, operational effectiveness, and sound administration under his command philosophy.

During a commissioning ceremony in Abuja, Major General Lagbaja inaugurated several welfare projects completed by Brigadier General Umar, showcasing the Nigerian Army’s dedication to improving the well-being of its personnel. Among the projects commissioned were newly constructed officers’ quarters comprising 20 blocks of flats at Wu Bassey Barrack. Additionally, the Guards Brigade’s hospital and Garrison duty room underwent a modern and state-of-the-art transformation.

The Chief of Army Staff also oversaw the commissioning of residential accommodation for the Brigade Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM), an initiative sponsored by Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, the immediate past Chief of Army Staff. General Lagbaja expressed his delight at the multitude of projects accomplished by the Guards Brigade, noting that they marked the first set of projects commissioned during his tenure as the 23rd Chief of Army Staff.

General Lagbaja commended Brigadier General Umar and his team for their positive attitude and dedication to the welfare of the troops. He emphasized the significance of these projects in providing essential amenities for the personnel, their families, and the local community. Assuring further infrastructural development, the Army Chief pledged that similar projects would be undertaken nationwide. He stressed the importance of troops maintaining these facilities properly to ensure their longevity.

The commissioning ceremony took place at Wu Bassey and Mambilla Barracks, with the Chief of Army Staff personally inaugurating the projects. The event was attended by key Principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters, members of the Nigeria Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), as well as officers and personnel from the Guards Brigade.

The occasion concluded with the presentation of a souvenir by the Commander of the Guards Brigade to the Chief of Army Staff.
