Army School of Finance

On March 15, 2023, the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration (NASFA) in Apapa, Lagos state, was officially opened by Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, Chief of Army Staff (COAS). The COAS gave the projects the go-ahead after noting that the infrastructure development is consistent with “Readiness,” one of the four pillars of his command philosophy. He also noted that a supportive atmosphere for learning is an important part of training. He stressed that this serves as the impetus for the Nigerian Army (NA) under his command to support training institutions all over the NA with infrastructure and other facilities.

According to a statement by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, Gen. Yahaya took advantage of the opportunity to thank officers and soldiers of the NA for their impartial and professional behavior during the final elections, which were conducted on February 25, 2023. In coordination with sister services and other security agencies, he observed, employees displayed a high level of professionalism, creating the necessary safe, secure, and favorable environment for the conduct of the elections. He gave the soldiers orders to uphold the standard and make sure that everyone is free to carry out their civic duties. He promised to keep giving formations and groups the necessary logistics so they could carry out their constitutional duties.

The Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration (NASFA), formerly known as the Nigerian Army Pay Corps Training School, was established in 1968 but was renamed in 1982 after receiving accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education to train personnel and award both the National Diploma (ND) and the National Certificate (NC). This was noted earlier before the commissioning by the Chief of Account and Budget (Army), Maj Gen Adetokunbo Fayemiwo (HND). Among the three branches of the Nigerian Armed Forces, he revealed that the school has so far produced 2,599 ND and 1,943 HND graduates. The recently commissioned projects, according to Gen Fayemiwo, include a bakery, four staff offices, a school auditorium, a female hostel, a mess for warrant officers and sergeants, two main lecture halls, four staff offices, and a refectory.

The COAS also gave the go-ahead for a 12,000 Litre capacity Borehole in Ilasamaja, Mushin, also in Lagos, as well as the rebuilt, remodeled, and upgraded Alafia Oluwa Primary School. The interventions initiatives, which are a part of the Civil Military Cooperation intervention program of the Chief of Army Staff, are meant to repay Nigerians for their support of the NA. At the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Yaba, the Army Commander also opened a brand-new radio diagnostics center. The medical facility will, as is normal, hasten the diagnosis of illnesses and provide advice on how to handle them.
