On Friday, May 26, 2023, in Port Harcourt, the state capital of Rivers, the Police Tactical Operations Center in Rumuepirikom was officially opened. The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, was there. At the PTOC, tactical actions and investigations can be conducted in contemporary facilities.
The Tactical Operations Centre will serve as a base for information and intelligence gathering as well as specialized deployments to combat violent crimes like armed robberies, kidnappings, and other crimes, according to a statement from CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force’s Public Relations Officer. The PTOC was established with a focus on the state’s crime trends.
The Inspector General of Police respects Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, for his continued commitment to policing reforms and the improvement of police operational structures. In order to successfully use the Center in preventing crime and criminal activity and ensuring the security of the entire state, he provided the Rivers State Commissioner of Police instructions.
In addition, the police boss used the occasion to highlight the Police Force’s willingness and commitment to incorporate everyone in a community- and ICT-based policing system in order to advance security and public safety in Nigeria.
The IGP commended the dedication and professionalism of the police officers serving in Rivers State, encouraging them to leverage the capabilities of the new Tactical Operations Centre to deliver effective and efficient policing services to the community
The commissioning ceremony was attended by dignitaries, senior police officials, and members of the administration. The event served as a platform to promote the constructive relationship between the police force and the state, emphasizing their joint responsibility for the protection and security of the neighborhood.
Once it is operational, it is believed that the Tactical Operation Centre would significantly affect crime prevention and control, increasing public confidence in the police force’s ability to safeguard people and property. The government’s continued commitment to and support of police reforms will make it feasible for Rivers State to have a better and more secure environment.
