The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been selling confiscated assets through public auction since December 6, 2022, when it started at the Lagos Command of the organization. Today, December 12, 2022, more Zonal Commands are taking part in the sale.

Hundreds of prospective bidders descended into the offices of the Commission’s Abuja, Benin, Kano, Ibadan, and Port Harcourt Zonal Commands today to view the images of the items up for auction.

Hundreds of people gathered in front of Car Park ‘A’ entrance of 5 Fomella Street, Wuse 2, Office of the Commission in Abuja as early as 8am to inspect slots of the 35 objects up for auction.

The gates were opened at precisely 9am, and auctioneers were present to answer inquiries and walk the general public through the auction’s procedure.

Hundreds of prospective purchasers descended on the Paragon Demonstration School, Limit Road, Benin City to look at the images of the 20 forfeited cars that were on display for inspection.
ACE1 Ola Tochi Oji, a member of the EFCC Asset Disposition Committee, claims “The automobiles will be inspected today, and the auction and competitive bidding will take place tomorrow, December 13. The winning bidder makes a payment to the Federal Government account in full.”

The winners are expected to pay within 48 hours to the Federal Government’s account, according to James Enedo, a representative of Richmate 480, an auctioneer authorized by the Federal Government.

The Police Officers Wife Association, POWA, located at 6A Olumeni Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, hosted the examination of the 45 automobiles that were scheduled for auction in that city.

Commander of the EFCC, CE Osita Nwajah, a member of the Asset Disposal Committee, spoke at the ceremony and claimed that the EFCC had given the process widespread attention to ensure that all citizens participated fully.

“We publicized this activity widely because we want every Nigerian to take part. There is no underhanded behavior or hanky-panky. We want to be accountable to the Nigerian people, thus everything we do is open and transparent.

“Someones had cornered this money of yours, but justice was served, it was recovered, and the court confiscated these assets to the Federal Government.

“The government is proposing to send the money back to the Nigerian people for a very nominal cost, with the understanding that the revenues will be sent back to the government for use as we have specified. Water, water quality, roads, and other infrastructure, he stated.

In Port Harcourt, there will also be an auction for nine ships or barges.
In accordance with pertinent sections of the EFCC Establishment Act, 2004, and Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Act 2022, the Commission will auction off over 430 cars, ships/barges, computers, and electronic devices.
